Military Helmentliners

Every Sunday 1p-4p

It's that time again to get busy knitting helmetliners for our military! Last year, we donated a whopping 159 helmetliners, the bulk of which were shipped thru The HUGS Project to all branches of the military.

On a very personal note, we presented 21 helmetliners to members of our Oklahoma National Guard who shipped out in January of 2009 for a 2-year deployment. Many of you were at GYC when the entire squad showed up in uniform for the presentation, pictures, smiles, tears & camaraderie. Their attitude & professional bearing brought home the sacrifice these professionals contribute toward our freedom. They left behind their "real" jobs & their families in order to train Afghan troops in their respective specialties.

Please help us reach our goal of 200 helmetliners for the Holiday 2009 Season. One skein of Cascade 220 Superwash makes one helmetliner. Please save your leftovers as we can actually get 5 helmetliners from 4 skeins. Also a personal note to a serviceperson, tucked inside the finished helmetliner, is very much appreciated. We will have a display at the store so you can look at samples.

Karen Johnson has generously volunteered again this year to manage the project. She will be at the store each Sunday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. for free help on helmetliners or to answer any questions you might have. This would be a great project for beginners to learn several techniques. So please ask your fellow knitters, church members, and social groups to join us in this worthy project. Our deadline for shipping is 12/10/09.
